The area is very interesting and is ideal for walkers, bird watchers, divers, and windsurfers, Weymouth is only 6 miles away with its entertainment and large sandy beach. The renowned Sailing Academy is only 4 miles away.Weymouth and Portland will be the venue for a host of water sports in the 2012 olympics.

This is a quiet select 5 star park for those looking for a restful holiday in nice surroundings. This area is now a World Heritage Site known as the Jurassic Coast stretching from Weymouth to Lyme Regis.

The Royal Manor of Portland joined to the mainland by Chesil Beach is only 6 miles from Weymouth, but has its own unique history and character. Its main claim to history is the famous Portland Stone which has been quarried for hundreds of years and used in buildings all over the world. Millions of tons were used in the re-building of London City after the Great Fire, and St Pauls Cathedral is probably the best known which was built by Sir Christopher Wren in 1608. Remains of his quarries known as "Weares" can still be seen and the loading point is in Church Ope Cove below the Park.

The Park is built in the gardens of Pennsylvania Castle which is now a private residence. The Castle was built by William Penn, Grandson of William Penn, the Founder of Pennsylvania in the USA. Other famous Landmarks on this charismatic "Isle" include Portland Bill Lighthouse on the southern tip built to warn shipping of the treacherous rocks which have claimed many victims. The Lighthouse allows visitors to climb the hundreds of steps to the lamp room with spectacular views. The climb is quite strenuous and not recommended for sufferers of vertigo!

There are two more Lighthouses now private homes, the upper lighthouse was once the home of Dr. Marie Stokes. Portland is also well known by bird watchers as it is an important resting point for migrating birds of all kinds.
